Upon suspending normal operations in March due to COVID-19, YMCAs quickly pivoted their staff and facility resources to provide critical support for our community and those most heavily impacted by COVID-19. From providing emergency child care to coordinating feeding programs, from hosting blood drives to calling isolated seniors, our Ys have cared for our communities.
We thank the many generous members who continued their monthly drafts, even though the Y has was closed, because they value the Ys commitment to community. We also thank generous donors that have supported our YMCAs and city and county governments who are partnering to provide funding relief to YMCAs in their communities.
Facing Significant Financial Challenges
North Carolina YMCAs, like nonprofits across the state, are hurting. NC Ys have collectively lost $4.5 million per month since March and cut or furloughed 65% of full-time equivalent staff. The largest YMCA associations in our state did not qualify for federal Paycheck Protection Program loans, so to date, they have received no federal COVID-19 relief.
